BREAKING: Kyneton will not field a senior team in the Bendigo Football Netball League this season, after failing to secure the required player numbers.
League officials made the decision this morning after meeting Kyneton Football Netball Club on Thursday night.
League chief executive Steven Oliver said it was a tough decision.
‘‘Kyneton submitted a proposal to league officials on Thursday night, but was unsuccessful in having the numbers to fill a senior team.
‘‘The club has done everything in its power to get the numbers, but they have fallen short and this is the consequence.’’
He said the league hoped the Tigers would be able to field a senior side next year.
‘‘They have to start the rebuilding for 2014 and attract the players and local support.
‘‘They [Kyneton] need a footy club, not just for the footballers and the netballers, but the community itself.’’
Mr Oliver said a decision over the future of the club’s reserves, under-18 and netball teams would be made over the next few days.
